Orientation Day 2: Meetings, and Course Ranking Advice
Aug. 30, 2012 by arashkoff
First Years and Transfers,
I hope the first day of Orientation was enjoyable! Now, down to business…
In addition to all the other orientation events (hall meetings, public/fire safety meetings, etc.) there are three important academic meetings for you to attend today and tomorrow. These are your group meeting with your Faculty Advisor and all hir other advisees, your individual meeting with your residence hall’s Peer Advisor, and your individual meeting with your Faculty Advisor.
Your group meeting with your Faculty Advisor happens today, and is an opportunity for you and everyone in the advisee group to meet each other for the first time. Your Faculty Advisor will probably drop all sorts of wisdom on you, and will alert you of what ze expects from you when you meet with hir again tomorrow for your individual meeting.
Your individual meeting with your Peer Advisor happens today or tomorrow depending on when you signed up at your hall meeting last night. Regardless, it should ideally happen before your individual meeting with your faculty advisor. Come to this meeting having at least started your electronic course rankings, with some idea of courses you want to take this semester. If you need some help at ranking your courses, check out this handy chart of guidelines courtesy of the Registrar’s Office. Your Peer Advisor will clear up any confusion you might have behind the ranking system, vet your rankings to make sure they are optimized to help you land those course seats you most covet, and answer any other questions about academic life and beyond.
Your individual meeting with your Faculty Advisor happens tomorrow. This meeting is absolutely mandatory for everyone planning on being enrolled as a student this semester, because it there that your Faculty Advisor will officially submit your course rankings into the pre-registration system. If you’ve already had your individual meeting with your Peer Advisor beforehand, this meeting should run all the more smoothly.
